History

The Everton Park Hotel, located in Brisbane’s Everton Park suburb, has been a central part of the community for decades.

The hotel’s history reflects the growth and development of the Everton Park area, which was named after the residence of pioneer settlers William James McDowall and Ambrose McDowall.

The Everton Park Hotel was built in 1975 and first owned by John Tucker who drove much of the economy in the local area introducing a general store and post office.

The venue was later sold to Ken Talbot who made the venue iconic in the local community by introducing a carousel and later a children’s playground. This was groundbreaking in its own way as the carousel with a spinning teacup – imported from Italy – was installed in the days before pubs in Queensland were destinations for a family day out.

The carousel was a huge hit from the start and today the hotel’s play area, positioned conveniently alongside the outdoor courtyard so parents can watch from their table, is a wonderland for children to explore. There are swings, slides, games, a drawing station, PlayStation room and even an air-conditioned movie room.

The hotel has undergone a $7 million renovation in three stages to deliver 13 accommodation rooms, a gaming room, sports bar, bistro, playground, outdoor dining space and a beer garden.

The new space offers a great value bistro/restaurant, gorgeous function facilities, a lounge bar, Sports bar, state-of-the art TAB facilities, a magnificent Gaming room and motel-style accommodation.

At the Everton Park Hotel there is something for everyone.
